Ravindra Jadeja has finally broken his silence on one of the most controversial twists in the history of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), three years after his sudden mid-season exit as captain. Back in IPL 2022, Ravindra Jadeja was handed CSK’s captaincy by none other than MS Dhoni.
Chennai Super Kings was ready to enter the new era, but it turned into a disaster, as the team faced four straight losses, leading to tensions in the dressing room and mounting pressure on Jadeja. After just eight games with only two wins, the Indian all-rounder was quietly removed from captaincy.
As a result, MS Dhoni returned as CSK captain, but his leadership also failed to do any wonders, as they finished ninth with only four wins in IPL 2022. At the time, rumors of a rift exploded, suggesting Jadeja would leave the Chennai franchise for good.

And then the silence from both sides only added fuel to the fire. However, CSK retained Jadeja in 2023, and he delivered a magical final-over performance in the IPL 2023 final to help the team lift the fifth IPL title under Dhoni’s captaincy in Ahmedabad.
Now, Jadeja has finally opened up about his captaincy tenure. The Indian all-rounder didn’t point fingers at anybody in the CSK camp but said that no matter how much a captain wants to turn things around, it is impossible when the batters and bowlers are not delivering.
I could have done differently: Ravindra Jadeja
Jadeja said that T20 cricket moves fast and every ball matters, and revealed that when CSK wasn't performing, all the blame fell on him for decisions like bowling changes and field placements. He noted that if players had contributed, things might have been different.
Ravindra Jadeja said on the ‘Kutti Stories With Ash’ YouTube show, “It was difficult. In T20 cricket, every ball is an event. It is a fast game, but for me it was an experience. I could have done better. As a captain, if your team is not doing well, then all the blame falls on the captaincy. Thinking, bowling changes, fielding chances. Unfortunately, the team was not doing well.”

Jadeja added, “If we were winning and everyone was contributing, then it was not rocket science. Sometimes, normal things work, but when your players, batters, and bowlers don’t contribute, you cannot win in the T20 format. I felt I could have done better; I could have done differently.”
CSK's struggle continues in IPL
After winning the fifth title, everything is going against CSK, as they failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. For the first time, the Chennai franchise finished at the bottom of the table for the first time in their history, winning only four of their 14 games in IPL 2025.
Jadeja, who was retained by the CSK for INR 16 crore, has had an ordinary campaign, as the seasoned all-rounder could muster 301 runs and scalp only 10 wickets in 14 games this season. Now, he is gearing up for the five-match Test series against England, starting on June 20 in Leeds.
