WEBSTER, N.Y. – Habitat for Humanity and Constellation Energy teamed up to build a new home for a local resident named Tiana at Baytowne Plaza on Friday. Tiana expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to provide a stable home for her children.
“It means everything to be able to provide a home for my children and just own my own home,” Tiana said.
Tiana was connected to Habitat for Humanity through a friend who had a home built by the organization 20 years ago. She encouraged others to remain hopeful in their pursuits.
“Stay focused, stay focused, stay focused. Do what you have to do to get what you need. Even though it takes or seems like it may be a lot, in the long run it’s worth it,” she said.
Habitat for Humanity is known for building not only homes but also communities. Volunteers often work on each other’s homes, forming lasting friendships and support networks.
“Often these families have worked on each other’s homes so they know each other before they move in. And we’ve been doing this a long time, so what I see now is they stay friends and they help each other, babysit or run errands or help raise each other’s kids,” Habitat for Humanity officials said.
Each volunteer signed their name on the frame of Tiana’s home, leaving messages of encouragement. Tiana also signed her name, marking the beginning of a new chapter for her family.
