Actress and activist Jane Fonda, 87, proved age is just a number during her recent appearance at the University of Southern California.
Fonda gave the Commencement Speech for the graduates at USC's Annenberg School on May 16. For the event, Fonda wore a silver shirt underneath a red suit. She finished off the look with a statement necklace. She also opted to style her shoulder-length gray hair in loose waves.
Fonda has been open about looking younger than she is throughout the years. For instance, in a May 2023 interview with People magazine, Fonda said that she is in good health and has "good posture," which "makes [her] seem younger than [her] actual numerical age."
In addition, she said she was grateful to still have a career as an actress.
"I didn't think I would live past 30. That's why I don't take anything for granted. I'm just so amazed at my age, I'm still working and I'm a viable performer. I still have a lot of energy. It just all came as a surprise to me," said Fonda to People magazine.
Fonda made similar comments during an August 2022 interview with Vogue. She said that she "want[s] young people to stop being afraid about getting older."
"What matters isn’t age, isn’t that chronological number. What matters is your health," said Fonda during the 2022 interview.
She also said that she understands she is wealthy enough to "afford a trainer," plastic surgery, and facials, to help her look younger.
"That is true. Money does help. Good genes and a lot of money, as somebody once said. But then as I’m saying that, I’m thinking we all know a lot of women who are wealthy who’ve had all kinds of facelifts and things like that and they look terrible. I had a facelift and I stopped because I don’t want to look distorted. I’m not proud of the fact that I had [one]," said Fonda to Vogue.
She also shared her secrets to looking younger.
"I stay moisturized, I sleep, I move, I stay out of the sun, and I have good friends who make me laugh. Laughter is a good thing too," said Fonda.
