WWE Hall of Famer and AEW announcer Jim Ross took to Twitter on Thursday to share heartbreaking news about his health. The 73-year-old announced his colon cancer diagnosis and offered a glimpse into what his upcoming battle against the disease will look like.
“Diagnosed this week with colon cancer,” he wrote. “Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”

— Jim Ross (@JRsBBQ) May 15, 2025The former pro wrestler, who also lives with Bell’s Palsy, is now facing cancer for the second time. Ross first announced he had skin cancer in October 2021. By December of that same year, he shared that he was cancer-free and would return to his role as an AEW announcer.Ross was the iconic voice of WWE’s “Attitude Era,” a period that saw the meteoric rise of stars like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock. He lent his voice to WWE for more than two decades before joining AEW in 2019.
Fans were quick to offer their support. One wrote, “Sending prayers now,” while another added, “Good luck and keep fighting.”
One fan became emotional while reflecting on Ross’s legacy:“Prayers for you, Jim. For me, you’re the voice of wrestling. As a result, the voice of my adolescence. Not the voice of WWE, WCW, or AEW—you are the voice of professional wrestling as a whole, and the best to ever do it. Stay strong, Jim.”
