As one of the most iconic movies of the early 2000s, almost everyone has seen Legally Blonde at some point or another. With its cult status only continuing to rise with each passing year, it should come as no surprise Legally Blonde's popularity will soon pave the way to a Prime Video prequel series next summer.
In an exciting bit of news for fans of Reese Witherspoon's unorthodox attorney Elle Wood, James Van Der Beek -- the '90s heartthrob actor best known for his role in Dawson's Creek -- will play a recurring role in the upcoming Amazon prequel series Elle, as reported by Variety.
Starring Lexi Minetree in the title role, Elle follows a younger version of Witherspoon's character years before the events of Legally Blonde, specifically looking at the formative high school years that influenced her personality, work ethic and trendy obsession with fashion.
Van Der Beek will reportedly figure into the show as high school superintendent-turned-prospective mayoral candidate, Dean Wilson. As reported by Variety, the 48-year-old Van Der Beek will have a recurring role in the series.
Van Der Beek has long enjoyed a successful career in the wilds of television, as seen with his early breakthrough performance in The WB's classic teen drama, Dawson's Creek. From there, the actor went on to appear in a variety of diverse TV series throughout the following two decades, including ABC's Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, CSI: Cyber and FX's Pose.
His most prominent film credits include appearances in movies like Varsity Blues, The Rules of Attraction, Texas Rangers and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Previous casting announcements for Elle include June Diane Raphael as Elle's mother, Tom Everett Scott as her father, and Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney and Zac Looker in starring roles within the show.
