Usain Bolt has made a surprise revelation around his decision to retire from sprinting.
The eight-time Olympic gold medallist hung up his running shoes after the 2017 World Championships aged 30.
His final event in London saw him claim a bronze medal in the 100m before ending his glittering career.
However, Bolt has now admitted he wished he had not retired so soon but that he would never return to the track.
The 38-year-old instead says he regrets not continuing his career through to the Tokyo Olympics four years later.
Bolt told the Go Wild Podcast: “I used to complain when I used to travel a lot when I used to do track and field, but I do miss it.
“I do miss the competitions and going to the meets, competing.
“I don’t miss the training, but I do miss the competition and the World Championships.
“If I’d known, it’s not like I’m not enjoying the time, but I’d have probably gone four more years and say, ‘You know what? Let’s try for Tokyo.’
“But because I dominated so much, I was like ‘Oh I don’t need to go,’ but I knew I was going to miss it so much I’d say, ‘Let’s go four more years.'”
Bolt’s comments stunned host Colin Jackson, with the former British hurdler left speechless in response.
Jackson himself was an Olympic medallist during his own athletics career, claiming silver in the 110m hurdles at Seoul 1988.

His plans to return to the sport would have seen him prepare for the Tokyo Games before appearing in Japan.
Bolt ultimately opted against reversing his retirement, though, after his coach told him he would not go with him.
In his absence, Jamaica failed to win a single men’s sprinting medal across the three events Bolt previously dominated at the delayed Games in 2021.
There absence from the top of the podium continued at last summer’s Olympics in Paris.
Kishane Thompson did end the medal drought, though, winning silver in the 100m.
It comes after Bolt dominated the 100m, 200m and 4x100m during his career.
He retired with eight Olympic gold medals across the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Games as well as 14 World Championship medals, of which 11 were golds.
Meanwhile, Bolt remains the world record holder in all three of his signature events.
