The end is near.
The Golden State Warriors that we have all come to know for the last decade-and-a-half are nearing their final chapter.
Everyone knows this, none more so than the man responsible for the entire dynasty, Stephen Curry.
He knows he doesn’t have too many chances left at winning title number five.
He and fellow running mate Draymond Green are poised to make this postseason run count.
Along with the midseason acquisition of superstar Jimmy Butler.
The aging big three have their eyes on the Larry O’Brien Trophy, as the hourglass dwindles to its last few grains of sand.
ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk captured the moment Curry and company had the moment of realization that this is all soon coming to an end.
February 5 in Salt Lake City Utah, the day that the Butler trade became official.
“This is it,” an emotional Curry told Green.
“It’s our last ride.”
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. put all his chips in the middle of the table to acquire Butler.
Butler’s addition has been a welcomed breath of fresh air for Green and CurryGetty Curry has channeled his prime self over the course of the first roundGettyAnd now they have a 3-2 series lead against the two-seeded Houston Rockets, with a shot to close them out in Game 6 back in the Bay.
Curry understands the golden opportunity at hand, and took a moment to reflect on everything he and Green went through over the last decade-plus.
“How many more chances will we actually realistically have at chasing a championship?” Curry told ESPN before the series began.
“Not saying this is the last year, this run that we’re going to have. Just focusing on what we can get out of it.
“Me and him [Green] have been through every battle for the last 13 years.
“Obviously, we are trying to recreate that magic.”
Curry and Green have been teammates since 2012GettyHead coach Steve Kerr agreed with Curry that they don’t have too many chances left, but he also knows the Butler addition may have just extended their window by just a bit.
“The exciting thing is Jimmy gives us the opportunity to extend this thing by a couple of years,” Kerr told ESPN.
“He’s that good. He’s also the kind of athlete who’s going to age well because he’s not relying on explosive leaping ability.
“It’s more savvy and strength, and he’s such a smart player.
“So, I think we’re going to be really good for the next few years. But Steph’s right, these next few years are the last round.”
The Warriors have a chance to advance to the second round with a win tonight at the Chase Center and extend their final chapter.
