The Taiwanese contract manufacturer is developing a 300-acre facility in Bengaluru, set to be its second biggest facility outside China, Times of India reports.
Analysts believe the company plans to make up to 30 million phones in India this year, twice the estimated 10 to 15 million it produced in 2024.
In a visit to India last August, company chairman Young Liu said he wanted the company to move beyond phones in India and start making products for information technology, electric vehicles, energy and digital health, the Times reports.
The company is also awaiting approval for a $48m chip packaging and testing facility in India, in partnership with HCL Group.
The Times reports that Foxconn-HCL have had discussions with Indian contractor Larsen & Toubro and Taiwan’s CTCI about building the chip facility.
