COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- The medical license of a central Ohio neurosurgeon has been suspended after multiple patients died in his care.
The State Medical Board of Ohio suspended Dr. Jeffrey Hatef Jr.'s medical license Feb. 12. According to a notice sent by the State Medical Board, Hatef performed surgeries that were described as, "excessive and/or unjustified."
The notice focuses on three patients Hatef treated in 2024. The three patients were in their 70s, and two died after surgery. The State Medical Board writes that one of the patients died the day of their surgery and the other 11 days later.
40 goats killed in Licking County barn fireThe State Medical Board also describes Hatef's continued practice as "presents a danger of immediate and serious harm to the public."
Hatef states in his LinkedIn profile that he is a neurosurgeon practicing within the Mount Carmel Health System. A spokesperson from Mount Carmel provided the following statement to NBC4:
"We are aware that the state medical board has suspended Dr. Hatef's medical license. We fully support the state medical board's investigative process and will cooperate with that process. We automatically suspended Dr. Hatef's clinical privileges at all Mount Carmel facilities and placed him on administrative leave."
Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center confirmed to NBC4 that Hatef was a resident from 2015 to 2022.
Hatef will face a hearing before the State Medical Board.
