ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The search continues for Zy’Jae St. Pierre, the 5-year-old boy who fell into the Genesee River nearly a month ago.
Rochester Police are holding the largest operation in a couple of weeks on Thursday, centered around the High Falls area in downtown Rochester. News10NBC’s Kristi Blake began seeing boats in the water around 10:30 a.m. after a delay due to morning showers.
In the morning, High Falls was flowing strongly as usual. Now, the falls looks like a trickle, creating much better conditions for divers and sonar.
Throughout the search, the RPD has been working with RG&E to change the flow of the falls. Up to four boats have been in the water at any given time. On Thursday, RPD Captain Greg Bello and Chief David Smith were at the High Falls area.
One person walking on the Pont de Rennes Bridge near the falls expressed the community’s shared grief, hoping crews can find Zy’Jae and bring closure to the family. Check back for updates with the latest details on the search efforts.
Zy’Jae was with his mother and younger sibling when he ran ahead, climbed over the railing on the Andrews Street Bridge in downtown, and fell 50 feet. It happened the evening of Sunday, June 1. Since then, RPD, several other agencies, community members, and Zy’Jae’s family have been searching the river.
