Danielle Flynn (and her alter ego, D.M. Flynn) writes by moonlight and baby monitor glow.

By day, she is a full-time mom to three wonderfully unique and wildly loved children and by night (8 p.m. to midnight, religiously), she writes and illustrates stories for both the curious young and the wonder-hungry grown-up.

Her latest book published is currently ranked number one on Amazon’s latest releases list. Danielle is the granddaughter of Frank and Midge McMichael.

Her writing career began in elementary school with a love for storytelling and a stubborn dream: to write and illustrate her own children’s book.

Two decades and three kids later, she finally brought that dream to life with “Whimsical Rhymes for Adventurous Minds” – a collection of childhood poems and tales, illustrated by the same hands that once scribbled them in a middle school notebook.

Flynn publishes her children’s books under “Danielle Flynn” and her adult nonfiction under “D.M. Flynn” – because “even a mom who runs a homeschooling playgroup, bakes enough dino nuggets to qualify for wholesale pricing, and wrangles three kids into a minivan can have a mind that contains multiple ideas on multiple topics in multiple genres,” explained Flynn.

The committed writer self-publishes through Amazon KDP, “thanks to a crash course via YouTube and sheer determination,” she said. Her books span genres and age groups because – let’s be honest – some days she’s all about rhyming woodland creatures, and other nights she’s “philosophizing about time, truth, and why your brain is basically a glitchy narrator trapped in a meat suit with opinions,” she added.

Flynn explained that balancing writing with three kids, homeschooling, and the general circus of domestic life is less about achieving “balance” and more about “riding the chaos like a very determined raccoon on a rollercoaster.”

Her creative hours begin after the bedtime battles are won and the last snack has been negotiated, when the house quiets down and imagination gets the spotlight.

Her days are full of lesson plans, laundry, dog interruptions, and big emotions. Her nights are for storytelling, drawing, and tapping into that quiet place where ideas finally get a word in.

“It may not come with red carpets or writing retreats, but it’s rich in purpose, color, and the kind of noise that means you’re living something real,” mused the author.

Flynn is married to Nick, a nurse and “all-around hero,” and together they have shared 15 wonderful years of partnership, parenting, and late-night teamwork. They have managed to create a life that is loud, loving, and just messy enough to feel real.

Danielle is passionate about storytelling, autism advocacy, and finding magic in the mayhem. Her voice is playful, her mind is curious, and her heart is big enough to hold it all.
