THE Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly in ‘constant’ conversation with Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs quarterback became the highest-paid player in NFL history in 2020, but has since been surpassed.
In 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year contract worth $450 million.
His contract was miles ahead of the next-highest, but now he lags way behind the rest of the league.
Mahomes’ $45 million average annual value is now tied for 14th among quarterbacks.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reset the market with a four-year, $240 million deal in 2024.
He is now making $15 million more per season than Mahomes.
Some names that are notably earning more money per season than Mahomes are Deshaun Watson, Kyler Murray, Brock Purdy, and Tua Tagovailoa.
Despite lagging behind in contract value, Mahomes isn’t upset with his contract situation.
NFL insider James Palmer reported that the Chiefs remain engaged with Mahomes to ensure he isn’t upset with the state of his deal.
“The Chiefs have done a really good job of staying in constant contact with Mahomes and making sure he’s happy with where things stand with his contract,” Palmer said.
“With the length of the deal it allows a lot of flexibility and movement to make sure Mahomes is properly and continuously compensated.”
NFL fans love that Mahomes isn’t fighting with the Chiefs over money, and shared their thoughts on social media.
“He literally doesn’t care. He knows he is making a lot and wants to win,” one fan said.
“He has created generational wealth far beyond his football contract value. He’s not concerned with being highest paid QB,” another fan said.
“Love of money doesn’t dominate Patrick Mahomes. The continual pursuit of excellence does,” a third fan said.

“Mahomes is smart enough to know that he needs to leave some money for his teammates,” a fourth fan said.
“He only cares about winning,” a fifth fan said.
Mahomes still has the highest total contract value of all time, but he will continue to get surpassed by shorter-term, higher value QB contracts.
There are still seven years left on his contract with the Chiefs.
The contract will run through his age-36 season.
