The annual Ukiah Daily Journal Spring Drive for the Boys and Girls club is now on and we’re asking pur readers to help us raise $45,000 to keep the club doors open.
The Ukiah Boys and Girls Club is a critical part of caring for young people in this community. The Club is here all year long as a safe place for kids after school but, importantly, also during the long summer holidays when local kids need a place to hang out, to have fun, meet up with other kids and get the mentoring that helps them grow into well adjusted adults
Over and over, we have seen Club alumni returning as volunteers at the Club, passing on the care they received as children. Our local Club has been a boon to hundreds of young people – many of them latchkey kids – who might otherwise have been hanging around on the streets.
At the Club they get healthy snacks, games, help with homework, friendship and much more. They learn responsibility and how to interact with others while having fun in a safe place with people who truly care.
This drive means so much to keeping the Club’s doors open during the summer when the population of kids goes up and the need is so great. There is no donation that is too small. As always, the Daily Journal will print the names of all the generous donors in this year’s effort. Send your check to Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 67, Ukiah, Calif. 95482.
We appreciate every donation.
