Indian selector informs Mohammed Shami of NO FUTURE; retirement announcement to follow..

Team India pacer Mohammed Shami has been left out of the 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England and his absence has sparked speculation about the future of his red-ball career. A former national selector stated that Shami is no longer the same bowler he used to be.

Shami returned to competitive cricket last November after a lengthy injury break. He has played white-ball matches for India, including the Champions Trophy 2025. However, the team management and selectors still have concerns about his fitness for the demands of the longer format of the game.

Mohammed Shami is unlikely to feature in India’s future red-ball plans. If he isn’t considered for major overseas assignments like tours of Australia or England, there’s little chance of him being recalled for home Tests later in the year.

“If Mohammed Shami isn’t available in Australia or England, why would the selectors pick him against West Indies and South Africa at home. They might as well use Akash Deep, Arshdeep, Harshit or Mukesh as Siraj or Bumrah’s partner," the ex-selector was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“Shami’s body is ageing, and one has to accept that he is no longer the bowler he used to be," the selector added.

Selectors Had No Choice But to Leave Mohammed Shami Out

According to a report by PTI, a representative from the BCCI’s Sports Science and Medical team recently assessed Shami in Lucknow. The evaluation concluded that his body is not yet ready to handle the physical demands of Test cricket, especially bowling 15 to 20 overs a day.

The team management had hoped to include Shami for the high-profile series, especially since three of the five selected pacers have fewer than 10 Test appearances, with Arshdeep Singh yet to debut in red-ball cricket.

However, given the medical team’s assessment, the selectors had no choice but to leave him out despite the value his experience could have brought.
