Ole Miss shuts out LSU, will face Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament Championship

Ole Miss will play for its first SEC Baseball Tournament title since 2019 on Sunday, when the Rebels square off against Vanderbilt. They advanced from Saturday’s semifinals after taking down LSU in an elite pitcher’s duel.

Offensively, Ole Miss was able to jump out to a 1-0 lead on a 1st-inning solo home run by Will Furniss. The Rebels tacked on a 2nd run in the 4th inning with Isaac Humphrey singling and eventually coming around on an RBI single by Campbell Smithwick.

That was all the offense the game would feature, with both teams combining for a total of 5 hits in the game. Jaden Noot would take the loss on the mound for LSU, but it was far from a poor outing after he was tagged for 2 runs (1 earned) with 7 strikeouts in 4 innings pitched.

The only downside for the Tigers is that Ole Miss’s pitching staff was even better. Cade Townsend got things started with 4.2 innings of shutout baseball, issuing 3 walks and allowing just 2 hits.

The reliever trio of Gunnar Dennis, Will McCausland and Connor Spencer was even better for Ole Miss. They covered 4.1 innings, and they did it all without allowing a hit vs. LSU’s lineup.

That group recorded 5 strikeouts with just 2 walks allowed, including 2 punchouts for McCausland in a perfect 8th inning.

With the win, Ole Miss advances to its first SEC Tournament title game since 2019. However, the Rebels have not won the SEC Tournament since 2018.

As for Sunday’s title game, the start time vs. Vanderbilt has since been adjusted. The SEC confirmed Saturday afternoon that the championship game will now begin at 1 pm ET (12 pm local time) to account for some severe weather expected on Sunday evening.

Gates will open at 10:30 am local time, and a new broadcast channel for the game is currently TBD.
