Law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County will increase patrols around Jewish institutions following a fatal antisemitic shooting in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night.
Two staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington — a young couple on the verge of becoming engaged — were fatally shot while leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum. The suspect yelled, “Free, free Palestine” after he was arrested.
The attack was seen by officials in Israel and the U.S. as the latest in a growing wave of antisemitism.
The Jewish Federation of San Diego said there are no known local threats, but the San Diego Police, San Diego County Sheriff, Carlsbad Police, Chula Vista Police and Coronado Police are all increasing patrols.
“We are deeply grateful to our local law enforcement agencies for their support of our community,” the federation said in an email message.
The federation urged residents to report all security threats, antisemitic, or hate-related incidents to the Secure Community Network.
