A 21-year-old man died after his pickup truck veered off Interstate 15 and crashed into a tree, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.
The driver was headed on southbound on I-15, north of Adams Avenue, just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. For unknown reasons, his white Toyota Tacoma went off the right shoulder, struck a eucalyptus tree and caught fire.
The driver of the pickup, whose name was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, died at the scene.
It has yet to be determined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. Investigators are waiting for a toxicology report from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
