Iconic 80s Band Reunites for First Performance in 35 Years

It's been 40 years since the band Til Tuesday became released their iconic hit song "Voices Carry" — and since they broke up just five years later when lead singer Aimee Mann left to launch her solo career, many fans gave up hope of ever seeing them play together again. So when the group reunited for the first time in 35 years for a concert last week, music lovers were just as excited as one might expect.

Mann, 64, took the stage at the Cruel World Festival in Pasadena on Saturday, May 17, alongside the other original members of the band, including guitarist Robert Holmes, keyboard player Joey Pesce, and drummer Michael Hausman.

“This is the song that made us recognizable in airports across America,” Mann said before introducing "Voices Carry" in a clip from the performance shared on Instagram.

Commenters couldn't get over seeing the band together again.

"This setlist played like a lover’s mixtape. It was sheer perfection and one of the best music moments of my life. No hyperbole," one person gushed.

"Such an incredible performance! Absolutely blew me away! Getting to be front row for their first show in over 3 decades was an incredible experience!?❤️ I have a video of it on my page too," added somebody who caught the show live.

"They were ?. Aimee is an incredible solo artist but it was great to see her play some ‘til tuesday songs with the band. A highlight of @cruelworldfest," agreed someone else.

Mann opened up to Variety about the challenges of performing with Til Tuesday again in advance of the Cruel World Festival, noting that her style of singing has changed drastically over the years.

"The biggest hurdle for me has been that, especially in the early songs, I sing completely differently," she said.

"And it’s been really hard for me to figure out how to sing that stuff, because I feel like that style was born out of playing in rock clubs and not really hearing what I was doing and just trying to sing as loud and high as possible," Mann continued, adding, "And I don’t know how to do that now. So I actually took a couple of voice lessons to see: How do professionals deal with this — like, higher notes that they can’t really hit? I mean, I’ve obviously lowered every key, just because over the years I’ve found it’s just more comfortable to sit in lower keys anyway. That’s kind of the journey I’m on. So we will see what happens."
