Guitarist Says ‘No Chance’ His Legendary Rock Band Will Play Together Again

One of the biggest names in rock history was poised for a comeback—before it all came crashing down with an onstage fight.

And now, Dave Navarro says there’s “no chance” that Jane’s Addiction will “ever play together again.”

Dave spoke with Guitar Playermagazine nearly eight months after the band exploded during a gig in Boston, Mass.

As Jane's Addiction was mid-song, lead singer Perry Farrell got physical with Dave. The visibly irate Perry shoved Dave before ultimately throwing a punch at him. Crew members and bassist Eric Avery intervened and restrained Perry before escorting him off stage.

Before this happened, Dave told Guitar Player magazine that the band was getting along. “There were a couple of gigs on this last run that we did last year in Europe with Eric Avery back on bass that were some of my favorite Jane’s Addiction gigs of all-time,” he said.

“And yet, if you were to ask me what my least favorite gig was, it would be a gig last September, on Friday the 13th, in Boston.”

“I have to speak in broad strokes here, because there are other individuals involved, and it’s still very tender and unresolved,” he said.

“There was an altercation onstage, and all the hard work and dedication and writing and hours in the studio, and picking up and leaving home and crisscrossing the country and Europe and trying to overcome my illness [long COVID] — it all came to a screeching halt and forever destroyed the band’s life,” explained Dave. “And there’s no chance for the band to ever play together again.”

Following the fight, Jane’s Addiction canceled the rest of the tour. The iconic alternative rock band was set to play 12 more dates across the U.S. and Canada—their first trek featuring the classic lineup, with Eric returning on bass for the first time since 2010.

After the incident, Perry issued a statement where he apologized to “my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro,” before taking “full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
