William Hardrick, former Mississippi State DB, dies at age 22

William Hardrick, a former Mississippi State football player, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 22 according to a release from Austin Peay Athletics Wednesday afternoon.

Hardrick originally committed to Mississippi State out of high school in Alabama, where he played both receiver and defensive back. He spent 2 seasons in Starkville (2021-2022) as a reserve defensive back and transferred to Miami (OH) ahead of the 2023 season. He spent the next 2 seasons playing for the RedHawks before transferring to Austin Peay, where he was slated for an expanded role.

    No further detail regarding Hardrick’s passing have been made available.

    “William Hardrick was an exceptional young man, and our team is heartbroken by his loss,” Austin Peay head coach Jeff Faris said in the release. “He made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them.”

    Hardrick played in 18 games for Miami OH across the past 2 seasons and finished with 32 total tackles, 1 forced fumble and 5 pass deflections.
