After serving for 14 years with Surrey Police, Detective Constable Rebecca Mason has a new beat at Channel 5 as presenter.
The 35-year-old decided to leave the force last year and pursue a full-time television career.
Now she is about to host a new documentary entitled, Vigilante & Proud: Catching the Street Thieves, as part of Channel 5’s Lawless Britain season.
In the show, she tracks down and confronts criminals who have been committing streets crimes and getting away with it – from pickpocketing and bike theft to shoplifting and phone-snatching – using facial recognition technology, live-tracking software and old-fashioned detective work.
Viewers will see her hunt down a criminal who has been running riot in Newham, east London, terrorising shopkeepers and stealing in broad daylight.
She also chases a violent gang of motorbike thieves and attempts to retrieve a bike worth £24,000 that was stolen in Southampton.
The hour-long programme, which will be broadcast on Channel 5 on Tuesday 6 May at 8pm, is not Ms Mason’s first foray onto the screen. We take a look at her police career and move into media.

Before joining the police, Mason worked for three years as a fraud investigator for the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Since 2017, she has been developing a career in the media, starting with appearances on the Channel 4 series Hunted and Celebrity Hunted, as a ground hunter.
She has also appeared as an expert on shows such as Channel 5’s Love Rats, W’s Red Flag, the BBC shows For Love or Money, Morning Live and Ill Gotten Gains.
The latter is where she is understood to have met her partner Rav Wilding, who is also a police officer turned television presenter.

Posting on Instagram, she said: “After 14 years as a police officer and 10 of those serving as a detective, I’ve made the tough decision to step away from the badge and let my career take a new direction.
