MS Dhoni injured ahead of KKR clash? CSK coach drops massive fitness update

Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simons has provided a fitness update about skipper MS Dhoni ahead of the clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025. He said that the keeper-batter is fine and will be playing in the next game of the season.

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni is having a tough time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Both as a skipper as well as the captain, the keeper-batter has struggled to get going, and this has been one of the major reasons why the team is reeling at the bottom half of the table.

Dhoni, who was handed the captaincy of the team mid-season, failed to take the team to the playoffs this season. Under his leadership, Chennai Super Kings became the first team in the ongoing edition of the tournament to be eliminated, as they have managed just two wins so far.

Chennai Super Kings are now set to lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2025. The match between the two teams will take place at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (7th May). The Yellow Army are putting hard yards ahead of the match as they would want to win their remaining games.

However, ahead of the clash, they were mulling over the fitness of skipper MS Dhoni. The keeper-batter didn't turn out for practice for two straight days, and it raised a lot of speculation over his availability for the clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, bowling coach Eric Simons said that Dhoni knows where he stands in terms of preparations. He revealed that the keeper-batter has no issues and is fit to play tomorrow.

“With regards to MS, he knows his situation very well, he knows where he is in terms of his preparations,” Simons said at the pre-match press conference. “He always works very hard at the beginning of a tournament and then allows himself to taper off because he gets himself in a space where he is ready. So, no issues. He will play tomorrow.”

MS Dhoni doesn’t impose himself on anybody - Eric Simons

Eric Simons also talked about Dhoni taking over captaincy after Ruturaj Gaikwad got ruled out. He said that the right-hander was always an influence and pointed out how he nurtured Ruturaj. He added:

“He (Dhoni) doesn’t impose himself on anybody, he was always an influence,” said Simons. “So, it was a very smooth transition because of the closeness of his relationship with Rutu and the way he has advised and nurtured Rutu, both from selection conversations through to tactics on the field.”
