A BELOVED grocery chain has quietly confirmed new stores will be opening in the coming months.
That means more consumers can get seasonal items and other budget-friendly deals on food and drinks.
Some even claim that the chain, Trader Joe’s, offers prices that are “cheaper than Walmart” and other big box retailers, per a post on Facebook.
Trader Joe’s currently operates around 608 locations nationwide in 43 states.
California has the most at over 200 stores, as that’s where it first started back in 1967 by founder Joe Coulombe.
It quickly expanded over the past few decades and continued to do so in 2024, opening 34 new stores.
As of April, Trader Joe’s plans to open at least 21 additional locations by the end of 2025, according to the “Opening Soon” section on its website.
While the 21 stores don’t have grand opening dates listed, the locations were identified across 14 states and Washington DC.
The states include Alabama, California, Colorado, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington.
Announcements for each opening location were also quietly released on Trader Joe’s website.
“We are proud to be joining the neighborhood, and to continue our commitment to providing nourishment to the surrounding communities through our Neighborhood Shares program,” a statement for the Pennsylvania store addition read.
“Our Crew is working hard so we can open our doors in 2025.”
“We’ll continue to post new details about the store and its opening here, so please check back for updates!” it added.
Some of the 21 have already opened.
For example, a new Trader Joe’s in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was operational as of April 10.
Seattle, Washington, customers also got their new Trader Joe’s store on April 11.

Avid Trader Joe’s shoppers may have been aware of the chain’s expansion plans continuing in 2025 if they saw an Instagram clip posted before New Year’s Day.
“As we look ahead to 2025, we see dozens of Trader Joe’s stores opening in neighborhoods around the country, and more Crew Members working together to provide customers with the best products, best values, and best experience they’ll find in any grocery store, anywhere,” Trader Joe’s noted in the post.
New openings are also an extremely calculated move from Trader Joe’s, as was noted in an October episode of the Inside Trader Joe’s podcast.
Co-host Matt Sloan explained that the grocer never wants to expand too quickly and carefully considers what it can sustain before making any moves.
PARKING PAINS
Sloan also noted that Trader Joe’s considers the accessibility of the area when opening new stores, especially the “access and ease of getting into and out of, and the flow of traffic patterns.”
Some customers still disagree, however.
The limited room in some Trader Joe’s parking lots has been a particular area of criticism for years.
A customer even joked in the Instagram post that they were “manifesting bigger parking lots in 2025.”
That has seemingly already happened at one of the latest new Trader Joe’s openings at the end of December.
“I’m thrilled that a new location opened this month in my city! Wider aisles, large parking lot with multiple entrances/exits, the same excellent customer service, and quality products that customers expect,” a fellow fan wrote.
Trader Joe’s vice president of marketing, Tara Miller, also spoke out on the reasoning behind the smaller parking lots while speaking with ABC affiliate KABC recently.
Miller noted that it’s not the retailer’s decision but rather that city governments don’t often permit larger parking lots for Trader Joe’s stores due to their size.
Trader Joe’s is also hesitant to increase store size as it would take away from the experience customers have loved for years.
The grocery chain also recently brought back a viral fan-favorite item for $3, and it resells for up to $1,000.
A shopper also spotted an “incredible” replacement for a breakfast essential that was discontinued at Trader Joe’s not too long ago.
