Eric Dane shared on April 10 that he was recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS.
The popular actor revealed the health diagnosis to People, saying in a personal statement, "I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter."

Touching on his plans for his career, Dane said, "I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week." The 52-year-old plays the character Cal Jacobs on the popular HBO series, which is currently filming Season 3. Dane is also known for portraying Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey's Anatomy.
Dane concluded by saying, "I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.” The actor shares two children, Billie and Georgia, with Rebecca Gayheart, whom he married in 2004. Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018 but it was never finalized, and she recently filed to dismiss the divorce.
The Mayo Clinic defines ALS as "a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time." There is currently no cure yet.
