A MAN convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend has been mistakenly released from jail – just months into his sentence.
Killer Kathan Guzman, 23, is on the loose, prompting his victim’s family to issue an urgent plea.
Guzman was convicted in November 2024 in connection with the death of Delila Grayson. Grayson was found dead in August 2022.
But, he was released from jail on March 27 – despite being slapped with a life-sentence, per the NBC affiliate WXIA-TV.
Cops in Clayton County, Georgia, have revealed that a training failure is behind the error.
The error was linked to a separate necrophilia charge that he was not convicted on.
But, the mishap has left Grayson’s family bewildered.
Christina Grayson, speaking to the Fox affiliate WAGA-TV, warned the public’s safety is now at risk.
“We’re talking about somebody that is trained in MMA,” she claimed.
She labeled Guzman a “trained killer” and warned: “No one is safe.”
“It’s scary to know that someone could just be released because of a mistake,” she added.
Tasha Mosley, the district attorney in Clayton County, was left in dismay.
“ I am not happy about this mistake made by a sheriff’s office employee,” she said.
Mosley struggled to hide her disappointment.
Delila was killed just a month before her 20th birthday, Christina revealed in a GoFundMe post.
Christina said her daughter was the victim of a “senseless and brutal” murder.
Delila, from Florida, had moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with Guzman, before their relationship turned sour, according to her mom.
The teen wanted to become more independent.
Christina revealed her daughter called her, saying she planned to return to Florida on August 6, 2022 – the day before cops found her dead in a bathtub.
Cops made the discovery after they swooped on the Atlanta home following a domestic dispute between the pair.
Guzman and Delila had been arguing for around three hours on-off before being killed, according to Clayton County officials.
KILLER CONVICTED
Guzman admitted to choking Delila when he was being quizzed by cops.
But, police said he didn’t report what had happened for at least 10 hours after leaving the apartment.
During his trial, Guzman claimed that Delila had attacked him with a knife and he put her in a sleeper hold.
He claimed that he was acting in self-defense.
Medical examiners claimed that Delila would’ve lost consciousness within 10 seconds to a minute because of the pressure on her neck.
They told the court her body would have become limp.
They explained that pressure would have to be applied for another four to six minutes to kill.
The jury were not convinced by Guzman’s self-defense argument.
Guzman was convicted of murder for strangling Delila.
He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.
