Why Queen Camillas Sister Refuses to Curtsy to Her

Queen Camilla might be married to the king, but her sister Annabel Elliot still has a hard time thinking of her as royalty.

In a new article for Tatler, royal author Robert Hardman writes about Annabel's opinion on how her sister has adapted to royal life since marrying King Charles 20 years ago—which she is apparently still wrapping her head around.

And while Annabel believes Camilla, 77, has handled her role as queen consort "beautifully," she still "finds it impossible" to curtsy to her own sister, Hardman writes.

Sometimes, Annabel said, she still "can't really believe" her sister is the wife of the reigning monarch.

"Obviously for [King Charles], it was always going to be," Annabel, 76, told Hardman. "But I think she’s transitioned beautifully, actually. I mean, I sometimes look at her, and I can’t really believe it."

Camilla married Charles in 2005, back when he was still the Prince of Wales under the reign of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. At the time, Camilla didn't take the title of Princess of Wales due to its association with Charles' ex-wife, Princess Diana, who tragically died in 1997.

Prior to her marriage Charles, Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles from 1973 to 1995. The former spouses share two children: Laura Lopes, 47, and Tom Parker-Bowles, 50.

Charles became king in 2022 following the death of Elizabeth, who had previously expressed her wish for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort.
