Andy Burcham is the Voice of Auburn, nearing the decade mark of his time covering Tiger athletics. He has been along for much of the ride with Auburn basketball throughout the tenure of head coach Bruce Pearl, and he’s ready to weigh in on the totality of Auburn’s 2024-25 season.
Of course, the season came to a tough conclusion on Saturday with the Tigers losing in the Final Four to Florida. Compounding that loss, Auburn watched on Monday night as the Gators rallied from 12 points down to scrap past Houston for the national title.
In spite of how the postseason ended, Burcham still believes what the Tigers accomplished during the regular season stands out:
“This team was very strong all season long. The toughest nonconference schedule Auburn’s (ever) had. Just one loss, and that was at Duke. A conference championship, and the No. 1 overall seed (in March Madness),” listed Burcham during his appearance on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.”
“I think it was a bit different. It is a very good run for this program. And I know it ended in disappointing fashion with the loss to Florida on Saturday, but in many regards, I think this will go down as the best season in Auburn basketball history,” claimed Burcham.

— McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning (@macandcube) April 8, 2025On the surface, it’s hard to dispute that claim. Auburn has just one other trip to the Final Four, and that came as a 5-seed under Pearl in 2019. The Tigers ended that season 4th overall in the SEC.
Considering the historically dominant nature of the conference this season, winning the outright title and grabbing the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament are worthy accomplishments. Then again, those accomplishments only raise the expectations of some fans.
It’s certainly a season the fans will remember for years to come. But, for now, the sting of a loss in the semifinals is still fresh for many.
