The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Monday (April 7), refuted reports that the board chairman Mohsin Naqvi is set to resign from his post. The reports emerged following the PCB president's appointment as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
Last week, Mohsin Naqvi replaced Sri Lanka's Shammi Silva as the new president of the ACC. The appointment further added to the responsibilities of the PCB boss. Apart from being the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi also serves as Pakistan's interior minister.
Soon after he was named as the new ACC president, several reports stated that he is likely to step down as the PCB chairman. The reports also claimed that Naqvi has already sent his resignation to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is also PCB's patron-in-chief.
According to the same reports, the reason behind Naqvi's decision to step down as the PCB supremo was not more responsibility but Pakistan's dismal performance in New Zealand. The Men in Green endured a disastrous tour of New Zealand as they were thoroughly outplayed in the T20I and ODI series.

New Zealand thrashed Pakistan by 4-1 in T20Is before clean-sweeping the three-match ODI series. The poor tour only extended Pakistan cricket's dismal performances in recent times. Before the series against New Zealand, Pakistan had exited the Champions Trophy at the group stage without managing a single win.
Mohsin Naqvi to continue as PCB chief:
However, the PCB has denied all the reports of Mohsin Naqvi stepping down and has termed them 'baseless'.
"There is no truth to the reports about Mr. Naqvi's resignation," a PCB official said. "He continues to perform his duties as PCB chairman and remains fully committed to the development of Pakistan cricket."
The PCB official also spoke about the added responsibility for Naqvi. He stated that the dual responsibilities of the PCB and ACC are "not unprecedented and can be managed with effective time management."
"It is an honour for Pakistan that our representative is leading the ACC. Mohsin Naqvi has no intention of stepping down from the PCB at this stage," a PCB statement said.
