APD: 15-year-old killed in northeast Austin homicide early Monday

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Austin police announced Tuesday that they're investigating a homicide that happened overnight Sunday into early Monday morning in which a teenage boy died in northeast Austin. This happened just hours after another teenage boy died in a separate homicide in south Austin.

The Austin Police Department said in a press release Tuesday that it was investigating a homicide that happened Monday around 3:10 a.m. in the 13000 block of Harrisglenn Drive. This is Austin's 11th homicide of the year.

According to APD, officers responded to multiple calls reporting a shooting in the area, and when they arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds sitting inside a black sedan that had crashed into a utility pole.

APD identified the victim as Derick Fajardo-Reyes, 15. Police said he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:17 a.m.

APD said Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses.

The initial investigation revealed that Fajardo-Reyes was in a vehicle with other occupants when the vehicle was shot, per APD.

The suspect fled the area and remains at large.

APD said Fajardo-Reyes was with an unidentified female before the shooting happened, and police are seeking information to help identify her.

Police ask that anyone who has photos, videos, or potential evidence submit it to police online.

Hours before this shooting happened, a 16-year-old boy was killed in a homicide in south Austin. The victim in that case was identified as Matthew Pichardo, and another juvenile male was arrested and charged with murder in connection.
