Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is on a mission to make a full comeback as the Rajasthan Royals captain and wicketkeeper in the ongoing IPL 2025 after playing as an Impact Player in RR's first three games so far in the tournament.
After undergoing surgery on his right index finger, Samson had received only a partial and temporary clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to participate in the ongoing IPL 2025. As a result, he had to step back from keeping wickets and hand over the captaincy to Riyan Parag.
Sanju played as an Impact Player in the Royals' first three matches in the ongoing tournament, scoring 66 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, 13 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, and 20 runs against Chennai Super Kings. Notably, Dhruv Jurel was taking care of RR’s wicketkeeping duty.
Now, after the Royals’ thrilling six-run win over Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati, the dynamic batter has directly flown from Guwahati to Bengaluru to get final clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE).

Sanju Samson heads to BCCI CoE for final clearance
Sanju Samson is now set to undergo rigorous testing at the CoE's Sport Science wing. His primary goal is to get clearance to resume his wicketkeeping duties, which would also allow him to take back the captaincy from Riyan Parag in the ongoing IPL 2025.
It is being said that Samson’s thumb injury has healed completely, and now he feels confident about his fitness. If the CoE managers give the green signal to the Royals skipper, fans will soon see him donning the gloves and leading the franchise once again in the tournament.
A source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “He will seek clearance to do so for the remaining games and is expected to be back as skipper from the RR's next match, which is nearly a week away.”
