High school sports results (Tuesday-Wednesday): Greeley West dominates Northridge in crosstown baseball clash

Baseball

Greeley West 15, Northridge 0, 5 inn., at NHS: Greeley West was razor sharp against its crosstown rival, as the Spartans improved to 2-0 on the young season. West out-hit Northridge 9-0. Spartans senior Luke Ramirez recorded the no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking four. Freshman Nic Hernandez led West offensively, recording three RBI and a double on 3-for-4 hitting. Seven Spartans batters connected on hits. This was Northridge’s season opener.

Windsor 13, Severance 8, in Windsor: Windsor’s early-season offense was clicking, as the Wizards got the better of their district-mate.Windsor led 6-0 after one inning. Severance trimmed the gap to 6-4 in the top of the fourth before tying the game at 7 in the top of the sixth. The Wizards responded, emphatically, with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Ethan Fillinger led Windsor, hitting 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and a run. Wizards senior Izaak Haro went 3 for 4 with two RBI and a double. Dom Rice led Severance, hitting 2 for 4 with three RBI, two runs and a home run. This was Windsor’s season opener. The Silver Knights fell to 0-3.

    Eaton 8, The Academy 0, in Eaton: Four-time defending Class 3A champion, Eaton, got off to a fine start to its season, out-hitting The Academy 9-1. The Reds jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Junior Austin Edelmon led the way for Eaton, hitting 2 for 2 with two RBI. A trio of Reds pitchers — juniors Vinnie Juarez, Liam Whalen and Gunnar Garrison — combined to strike out 14 and walk three.

    Colorado Academy 4, University 3, in Greeley: University, coming off a state runner-up finish a year ago, fell just short in this season-opening marquee matchup. Trailing 4-1 midway through the seventh inning, the Bulldogs pulled within a run but fell inches short of completing a comeback. Junior Gage Viken led University, hitting 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI.

    Brush 1, Valley 0, in Brush: Valley narrowly dropped this pitchers’ duel in this season-opening game against Patriot League heavyhitters. Brush out-hit the Vikings 4-1 and scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the fourth.

    Girls soccer

    Greeley Central 10, Valley 0, in Greeley: Greeley Central dominated this nonleague affair to improve to 1-1 overall. Junior Aaniya Davis led the way with six goals. Junior Nia Trevino added two goals and one assist. Valley fell to 0-3 on the season.

    Evergreen 1, Windsor 0, in Evergreen: Windsor fell to 1-1 on the season as a result of this defensive-minded nail-biter. Evergreen scored the game’s sole goal in the second half.

    Mountain View 2, Greeley West 0, in Loveland: Greeley West was unable to get on the board, as it fell to 1-1-1 on the season.

    KIPP Denver Collegiate 1, Roosevelt 0, in Denver: Roosevelt was blanked in this nonleague affair. The Rough Riders fell to 1-2 on the season.

    The Academy 10, Fort Lupton 0, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton struggled in every facet of this nonleague match. The Academy scored six goals in the first half and four more in the second. The Bluedevils fell to 0-2 overall.

    Boys swimming and diving

    Greeley West wins tri-meet, in Greeley: Greeley West scored 132 points to top Loveland (35) and Valley (6) in a three-team meet. The Spartans placed first in 10 of 12 events. West senior Timothy Kenigsberg won two events, the 100 butterfly (52.13) and the 200 individual medley (2:01.83).

    Windsor prevails against three opponents, in Fort Collins: Windsor scored 268 points to place first against Fossil Ridge (227), Mountain View (162) and Fort Collins (140) in a four-team meet at the Edora Pool Ice Center. Wizards junior Elias Everitt won a pair of events, prevailing in the 100 backstroke (55.49) and the 200 individual medley (2:10.40).

    Girls tennis

    Severance 6, Greeley Central 1, in Greeley: Severance controlled this league dual, winning all three singles and three of four doubles matches in straight sets. Silver Knights sophomore Joanna Carter defeated senior Sarah Rasmussen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Greeley Central received its sole win at No. 4 doubles where seniors Briseyda Hoyos and Emilee Ulloa-Ramirez defeated sophomore Paislee Butler and freshman Elayne Lambert. Severance improved to 1-1 overall, 1-0 in league. The Wildcats fell to 0-1, 0-1.

    Fort Lupton 4, Englewood 3, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton won two of three singles matches and two of four doubles matches to improve to 2-0 on the season. Bluedevils junior Dahlila Tijerina defeated junior Eden Thomas 4-6, 6-2, 0-0 (10-6). Her senior teammate, Skye Thyfault, defeated sophomore Maia Prange 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

    Fort Collins 5, Greeley West 2, in Greeley: Greeley West managed to pick up wins at just No. 1 and No. 2 singles in this league dual. Spartans senior Piper Clancy defeated sophomore Taylor Alcaraz 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-2. Junior Danae Rowe topped fellow junior Harmony Hill 6-0, 6-0. West fell to 2-1 overall, 1-1 in league play.

    Windsor 13, Roosevelt 9, in Johnstown: Windsor started fast to prevail in this early season slugfest. The Wizards led 7-3 after one inning and 10-4 after two. They out-hit Roosevelt 11-10. Senior Grant Kerber led Windsor, hitting 3 for 4 with four RBI and two runs. Seniors Ethan Fillinger and Dax Vela had two RBI apiece for the Rough Riders. Junior Dalton Baudino led the Rough Riders, hitting 3 for 3 with three RBI, a run and a double. The Wizards improved to 2-0 overall. Roosevelt fell to 2-1.

    Fort Lupton 19, Thornton 9, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton flexed its offensive muscles in this early season nonleague win. The Bluedevils out-hit Thornton 14-6. They trailed 3-1 before scoring eight runs in the bottom of the third. Junior Josiah Gonzales led the way, hitting 3 for 6 with five RBI, a triple and a run. Senior Javier Ortiz went 4 for 4 with three RBI, three runs and two triples. Fort Lupton improved to 2-0.

    Weld Central 13, Arvada 0, 5 inn., in Keenesburg: Weld Central dominated its way to its first win of the season, improving to 1-2 overall. The Rebels out-hit Arvada 10-0 and went up 11-0 in the first inning. Junior pitcher Lucas Johann allowed no runs on no hits, striking out 10 and walking four. Johann also led Weld Central offensively, hitting 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs.

    Timnath 10, Greeley Central 0, 5 inn., in Timnath: Greeley Central struggled in all facets to fall to 0-2 overall, 0-2 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Timnath outscored the Wildcats 12-4 and had one error, compared to five for Greeley Central.

    Boys lacrosse

    Windsor 16, Conifer 8, in Windsor: Windsor picked up its first win of the young season, improving to 1-2 overall.

    Girls soccer

    Severance 2, Skyview 0, in Severance: Severance remained undefeated in this early season, improving to 2-0-1.

    Frontier Academy 10, Bennett 0, in Greeley: Frontier Academy emphatically earned its first win of the season, improving to 1-2 overall.

    Windsor Charter 1, Dawson School 1, in Lafayette: Sophomore Gwendolyn Dow scored Windsor Charter’s only goal, but neither team was ultimately able to gain the upper hand. Firebirds freshman Addison Wells recorded nine saves. Windsor Charter moved its record to 1-0-1.

    Girls tennis

    Poudre 7, Windsor 0, in Windsor: Windsor dropped all three matches in straight sets in this league dual. The Wizards fell to 0-3 overall, 0-3 in league. Juniors Bailey Girten and Emily Gesick scored four goals apiece.

    Track and field

    Fort Lupton competes, in Westminster: Fort Lupton was one of 18 teams in the Thornton Early Bird Invitational at North Stadium. Though the girls didn’t place as a team, the Bluedevils tied for 11th (1) as a team. Fort Lupton sophomore Said Martinez placed first in the mixed 100-meter dash (13.18 seconds). Bluedevils senior Royce Guerrero was sixth (24.57) in the boys 200. Junior Harold McClain was seventh (108′ 4″) in boys discus.

    Boys volleyball

    Greeley Central 3, Windsor Charter 2, in Greeley: Greeley Central won this nonleague nail-biter to improve to 2-3 on the season. The Wildcats prevailed 25-13, 25-15, 19-25, 18-25, 15-9. Sophomore Emmitt Richardson had eight kills and five blocks for Windsor Charter. The Firebirds fell to 1-2 overall.

    Poudre 3, Severance 0, in Severance: Severance was unable to pick up a set, falling 30-28, 25-23, 25-23 in three highly competitive sets. The Silver Knights fell to 2-3 overall.
