Bulls basketball has been a tough watch as of late. And, as I’ve had no issues mentioning the last few weeks, it should be! The Bulls needed to take the rebuilding route, and while Arturas Karnisovas didn’t fully jump into that pool, he did take a step with the Zach LaVine trade.
Since the LaVine trade, the games have been rough, but Josh Giddey has become an absolute bright spot. In the month of February, Giddey is averaging 19.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG & 5.0 APG. He’s also averaging more than a steal per game. In that stretch, he’s shooting 48.8 percent from three while putting up 5.4 threes per game. Those three-point numbers aren’t sustainable forever, but that still represents a huge uptick and a necessary improvement for the 22-year-old Aussie.
Giddey’s last two games have been his best of the season. Against the Suns on Saturday, he had 24 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds on 11-18 shooting and going 4-6 from deep. Against the Knicks the game before he had a season-high 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds and 4 assists.
Josh Giddey’s emergence could prove massive for the Bulls and their attempted rebuild. Alex Caruso was the biggest trade chip this front office had. They needed Giddey to turn into a valuable piece. While it’s been an up-and-down year, his rise this month has been encouraging. Not only has he played his best basketball of the season, but he’s done so at a time when the Bulls had moved on from their best player and much of the lineup has been banged up. They needed someone to grab the bull by the horns (pun intended), and he’s done exactly that.
I think we can safely say Matas Buzelis is on a very promising path. But, after him, this roster has been filled with uncertainty. Ayo Dosunmu and Coby White are good players but do their team-friendly contracts make them more valuable as trade chips? Josh Giddey is a restricted free agent this summer, and the front office will most certainly pay him. They can’t let him walk for nothing after trading Caruso for him, especially if he’s playing this well.
The Bulls needed Giddey to emerge as a legitimate building block for the roster going forward. To be sure we still must see this version of Giddey stick around through the remainder of the season, but the last month has been a promising stretch. Keep it up, Giddey.
Meet the Bulls’ Opponents
2/24 at 76ers: Contrary to popular belief, someone actually will win this game! 2/26 vs Clippers: No more Zach LaVine to drop 35 points on them this time. 2/28 vs Raptors: Toronto has the better fourth overall pick out of Florida State, I’ll give them that. 3/2 at Pacers: These games always seem to be a lot of fun.Bulls Projected Lineup

Bulls: As mentioned above, I’m looking for more of this solid play from Josh Giddey. Outside of his strong run, though, Matas Buzelis is the player to watch. I’m hoping Kawhi Leonard plays on Wednesday night so Buzelis can go up against him and really get thrown into the deep end. I’ve loved seeing Matas inserted into the starting lineup after the Patrick Williams injury. There have been some strong moments and some struggles, but I’m all for letting him ride through those waves now because he’ll be better for it long term.Still thinking about these two buckets from Matas Buzelis last night. Brings the ball up the floor and uses a crazy gather step to get to the rim. Then, a freakin’ step back over KD!A great representation of the very high potential he holds offensively. pic.twitter.com/l6sOHLu62H
— Elias Schuster (@Schuster_Elias) February 23, 2025 76ers: The Bulls have lost six games in a row but still haven’t dropped ANY ground to the Sixers in the race for the final Play-In spot. Philly’s disastrous season continues, as they’ve dropped seven straight. Maybe tonight is the night they snap that skid! They’ve won both games against the Bulls thus far this season and own a six-game win streak over Chicago. Philly is 10-4 in the last 14 matchups with the Bulls. Can Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey please both play?! Clippers: Injuries will almost certainly dictate how this game will go. Kawhi Leonard is a question mark with a foot injury and Norman Powell is the same with knee issues. Ben Simmons is also on the injury report due to “injury management.” The last time these two met, Zach LaVine pretty much won the Bulls the game with a 35-point effort. He’s not there this time around, obviously, and this one will be an uphill climb if the Clippers are healthy. Raptors: While the Bulls have kind of stepped into the rebuilding pool, Toronto jumped into it last year. It still has a ways to go, but it feels like the rebuild is already paying off. They’ll likely have a top-ten pick this year. They have building blocks in Scottie Barnes and Brandon Ingram. RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickely, and Gradey Dick are intriguing pieces. If they can pick up another win in the draft this year, they’ll be in pretty darn good shape for the future. Pacers: Every time I watch the Pacers I can’t help but think how things would have played out if the Bulls had drafted Tyrese Haliburton as opposed to Patrick Williams. Likely they find a way to mess it up because that’s what the Bulls do, but it’s impossible for me to watch Haliburton and not get a little angry that Arturas Karnisovas (and several other teams, to be fair) passed on him. Haliburton was very good in the two games out of the All-Star break averaging 25.5 PPG, 10.5 APG, and 2.0 STL while shooting 42.1 percent from deep. © David Banks-Imagn Images Read More Details
