(PINPOINT WEATHER) -- Our next winter storm arrives Wednesday! However, it will be a relatively low-impact storm here, compared to parts of central and eastern North Carolina, where several inches of snow are expected.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for Wednesday through Thursday morning. Plan for slick and difficult travel at times, starting in the morning in the mountains and foothills.
The snow and sleet will spread across more of the Charlotte metro area late morning into the afternoon, with some cold rain or freezing rain south and east of Charlotte. This will continue off-and-on through early Thursday morning, ending with some light snow or flurries all around the region.
The highest snow totals will be in the mountains, but the foothills could get a couple of inches with some sleet mixed in. The Charlotte area and much of the Piedmont will only see a trace up to an inch. However, a light glaze of ice will also be possible in these areas.
Everything wraps up and moves out for Thursday afternoon. The sun will return. However, temperatures will get even colder -- dropping into the teens Friday morning, with single digits in the mountains. A bitterly cold but dry end to the week.
Tonight: Becoming mostly cloudy.
Wednesday: Periods of snow, sleet, rain or freezing rain. High 38/Low 32.
