News PressBee .. Parade Watch the post from Neil Gaiman's 'The Sandman' Cancelled at Netflix Amid Growing Controversy, Now to the details
While Netflix still plans to release Season 2 of The Sandman, the show will be put to sleep afterwards. As confirmed on Tudum, the series has been cancelled and will not get a Season 3. The news comes after allegations of sexual misconduct were leveled against creator Neil Gaiman, first in a July 2024 episode of a podcast entitled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman, then in a January 2025 cover story in New York Magazine. (Gaiman has denied any non-consensual or unlawful behavior.)

In a statement to Variety, Sandman showrunner Allan Heinberg claimed that the series' short two-season run was decided on in 2022, suggesting that it was the plan independent of the current controversy.
“‘The Sandman’ series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” he said. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

— The Sandman (@Netflix_Sandman) January 31, 2025According to showrunner Allan Heinberg, the show was meant to be just two seasons for creative reasons.
However, given that the show is inextricably linked to its creator and developer, Neil Gaiman, who is now currently embroiled in sexual misconduct allegations, its hard to imagine Netflix continuing with the property regardless of creative plans.
The Sandman, both in the graphic novel and television show formats, has long been praised for it's progressive values. The fantasy series offers LGBTQIA+ representation, diverse casting and complex social themes. That makes the current controversy that much more unsettling to many fans.
