The San Diego area remains under fire weather conditions, but the National Weather Service is forecasting widespread rain and mountain snow to begin Saturday night.
“For the weekend into early next week, a cold low-pressure system from the north is expected to bring cooling with widespread showers and mountain snow for Saturday night through Tuesday,” the weather service said in its 4:14 a.m. forecast on Friday.
Wind gusts that reached 40 to 50 mph overnight were expected to diminish through the morning.
High temperatures on Friday are forecast to be 67 to 71 near the coast, 73 inland, 73 to 78 in the valleys, 59 to 69 in the mountains and around 67 in the deserts.
Rainfall of up to one inch is expected along the coast and in the valleys. The mountains could get up to 2 inches with the snow level at 5,000 feet.
