While Netflix saw a few spurts of technical difficulties, the broadcasts were overall a success.

The streaming giant hosted two games on Christmas day that viewers from over 200 countries tuned into.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs played at 2:00 pm ET on Netflix.

The Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans followed that game up at 4:30 pm ET.

Those two games drew an incredible 65 million viewers in the United States.

The Ravens-Texans matchup drew 24.3 million viewers and the Chiefs-Steelers matchup saw 24.1 million viewers.

Those games were the most-streamed NFL games in US history.

The viewership of those games actually peaked during halftime, as Beyonce‘s performance drew 27 million viewers.

The Netflix experiment was a massive success for the NFL mainly because of how much it outdrew the NBA.

Christmas used to be a holiday dominated by basketball.

However, the NFL started encroaching on that market and absolutely dominated it this season.

The top NBA game, a matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, only hit 7.7 million viewers.

In fact, all five NBA games combined for 25.8 million viewers, just 1 million more that the Chiefs-Steelers game got on its own.

Sports fans are starting to recognize the shift in holiday dominance, and shared their thoughts on social media.

“Live sports are the next major growth driver for streaming giants like Netflix,” one fan said.

    NFL on Netflix

Netflix will be the global home of the NFL on Christmas Day this year.

The streaming service will show two special holiday games live around the world.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs kick off the double header against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 pm ET.

And they’ll be followed by the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans from 4.30 pm ET.

That game will also feature a halftime show from Beyonce in her home town of Houston, Texas.

Netflix also confirmed their broadcast team for the day, led by Fox NFL commentator Greg Olsen and former Good Morning Football host Kay Adams.

“Looks like NBA needs a new holiday,” another fan said.

“I watched both games. It looks like it was a huge success for @netflix,” a third fan said.

“No lie… the two games were so crisp clear. I would NOT be shocked if they bid to have the Super Bowl in 4-5 years,” a fourth fan said.

“Netflix broadcasts were actually fantastic. Having Hanson and Brees on instead of a million commercials was a game changer,” a fifth fan said.

Netflix will likely try to get their hands on more NFL games next season and further in the future.
