Kyler Murray fights back tears on sidelines as live TV broadcast captures Cardinals fans worst fears after Panthers loss

KYLER Murray had to hold back his tears on the sidelines before the Arizona Cardinals’ brutal 36-30 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers.

The Cardinals were eliminated from playoff contention with the Week 16 defeat.

The score was 30-30 in overtime when the Cardinals’ offense had the ball on their own 22-yard line.

On 3rd-and-10, Murray was sacked by Panthers’ D.J. Wonnum and lost a whopping -14 yards on the play.

After the play, Arizona chose to punt, and the Fox NFL broadcast showed Murray, who looked disappointed on the sidelines and appeared to be fighting back tears.

Offensive coordinator Drew Petzing was also consoling Murray, who then put his head down as the coach patted his shoulder a few times.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Panthers received the ball, and running back Chuba Hubbard scored a 21-yard rushing touchdown on the drive’s second play.

Arizona’s loss in Carolina and the Los Angeles Rams’ 19-9 win over the New York Jets shut the door on any playoff hopes for the 7-8 Cardinals.

Still, the overtime live TV sequence of Murray on the sidelines caused Arizona’s fanbase to believe his time with the team could be nearing its end.

“Crying real tears man i can’t believe this feels like the end of this era,” one wrote.

“This hurt me to see,” another commented.

“Could this be it for Kyler in Arizona?” a third asked.

It’s unlikely the 2021 Pro Bowler Murray will be moved anytime soon as his five-year, $250 million contract extension runs through 2028.

The Cardinals were down as many as 17 halfway through the second quarter of the game.

Penalties were one of the factors in Arizona’s loss.

They totaled nine penalties for 73 yards as a team.

Murray failed to once again get in a rhythm with rookie wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., who recorded just four receptions for 39 yards.

Even star tight end Trey McBride was held to just two catches for nine yards.

Murray completed 20-of-32 passes for 202 yards with a touchdown and interception.

Panthers’ Bryce Young, meanwhile, completed 17-of-26 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns, while Hubbard posted two touchdowns on the ground.

The Cardinals will travel to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17.
