Dave Clawson announced on Monday that he will step down as head coach at Wake Forest after 11 seasons at the helm of the program. However, he is expected to stay with the university in an advisory role under AD John Currie.
This news comes after the Demon Deacons finished the year 4-8, the same record as last season which followed a strong 2 seasons from 2021-2022.

Despite his poor record in 2024 and 2023, Clawson’s approval rating among Demon Deacon fans is mostly high. Wake Forest isn’t exactly a college football powerhouse across its history, and Clawson led the way during 2 of the better seasons in school history just a few years ago. Truly, Clawson’s 2021 and 2022 seasons are among the more impressive coaching seasons in recent memory – and he was even named ACC Coach of the Year in 2021 for the Demon Deacons’ 11-3 record.
Before landing at Wake Forest, Clawson served as head coach for Richmond, Fordham and Bowling Green. He was also hired as Phillip Fulmer’s last offensive coordinator at Tennessee in 2008.
