Maxie Solters, a publicist, writer, actor and producer well known to the entertainment community, died unexpectedly on Thursday. No cause of death was announced; she was 37. Born in 1987 and raised in Sherman Oaks, California, Solters graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in Theatre. Following graduation, she began a career in film and television casting while also serving as a coordinator for One Billion Rising, a nonprofit seeking to help end violence against women and others subject to gender-based violence. She appeared in numerous productions and created, produced and starred in her own comedy web series.
In 2012, she became the third of her family’s generation to enter public relations, following her father, Larry, and late grandfather, Lee. Her clients at the Scoop Marketing firm included the Kia Forum, the Hollywood Bowl, Music Forward and many others. Solters was also involved in V-Day International and Women’s Rights.
A celebration of her life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Maxie’s name to One Billion Rising.
According to its website, One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence) in human history. The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
