(KRON) -- The forecast is for continued cloudy coastal conditions, sunny afternoons, and cloudy evenings. The overall pattern remains fairly steady through next week as a slight cooling trend begins inland today.
Update
The onshore flow has kicked in, and the marine layer will dominate as it slowly deepens. Today's temperatures will be slightly cooler, with peak daytime highs in the late morning to early afternoon before the full brunt of the onshore flow ramps up and cools down the Bay Area. The afternoon will be breezy as the winds stream through terrain gaps such as the Altamont Pass and up through North SF Bay and the Delta late this afternoon and early evening. In short, the weather is cooling down. Enjoy the cool temperatures because July is around the corner and things look like they will heat up by mid-month.
Short Term
Today, the marine layer deepens to around 2000’ throughout the day, allowing cloud cover to expand across much of the interior by tonight. Temperatures cool slightly compared to yesterday, with high temperatures in most locations cooling by 2 to 3 degrees. Since the marine layer won’t have much influence across the higher elevations, there won’t be much cooling above 1000-1500'. High temperatures will generally be in the 80s across the interior lower elevations and upper 80s to mid 90s across the higher elevations.
Closer to the coastline, it will be cooler, with temperatures in the upper 50s to 60s. Within the marine layer, temperatures will be generally seasonal to slightly below normal, whereas temperatures above the marine layer will run seasonal to slightly above normal. A fairly typical June pattern continues.
Long Term
The slight cooling trend continues into Monday and Tuesday. Interior temperatures will drop into the upper 70s to mid-80s, with only the highest elevations continuing in the upper 80s to mid-90s. Temperatures won’t change much on Wednesday, although a few locations may experience a few degrees of warming. On Thursday and Friday, temperatures cool into the 80s across the interior, and mid-50s to mid-60s along the coastline. In terms of our cloud cover, our June pattern continues into July. For coastal areas and portions of the interior (particularly Monday - Wednesday), expect stratus to return each night and clear out mid to late morning. Coastal areas have some potential for drizzle again on Monday morning, but accumulating precipitation is not expected. There is a very low chance of thunderstorms developing in the afternoon/evening hours across the North Bay Interior Mountains on Monday and Tuesday. The main lightning threat is well to our north in Eureka, but there is still some potential across far northern Sonoma and Napa counties, but storms are unlikely to develop with chances remaining very low between 2% to 5%.
As always, check back with KRON4 for the latest updates.
