ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Fishers Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners will vote on Wednesday night on a plan that could dissolve the fire district.
According to the agenda posted in advance of Wednesday’s board meeting at 6:30 p.m., the resolution would set a public hearing for July 16 on a proposed Aug. 31 dissolution. The agenda says there are no other matters necessary to carry out the dissolution.
According to Commissioner George Heltz in an email, “If, after the Public Hearing in July, the Board votes to dissolve the district, there will be no gap in fire protection services. Fishers Fire District would continue to provide services through August 31, allowing the Town of Victor time to make decisions on how to provide services to residents.”
According to the agenda, if the Fishers district dissolves, “the Town of Victor, in its discretion, will arrange for fire protection services for residents of the District.”
It also stated that no district employees would be transferred, as all employment relationships would terminate upon the August 31 dissolution.
Heltz said Victor Farmington Ambulance would continue to provide EMS response to Fishers residents.
The agenda cites “Certain future financial instability” as a reason that “dissolution of the District is in the best interest of the residents of the District.”
It says the majority of the members of the board enforce a proposed dissolution plan.
Wednesday’s meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at Fishers Fire Station No. 2, 380 High St., Victor.
