Sun & clouds Wednesday as temps heat up, more rain rolls through the Charlotte area

CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) -- This heat just keeps on coming! Wednesday starts off with partly cloudy skies and low 70s as winds get ready to pick up throughout the afternoon. We’re mostly dry after overnight showers have tapered off and warm conditions linger.

We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds Wednesday as highs make a run for the low 90s in and around uptown. Points east of Charlotte can touch the mid-90s, which could give a heat index of over 100 degrees in some spots!

Be sure to exercise caution during the peak heating hours of the day, as the heat can be a bit excessive east of the Queen City. Winds will pick up Wednesday out of the southwest, blowing between 10 and 15 miles per hour. Wind gusts can be as fast as 23 miles per hour at times.

Storms will likely develop this Wednesday afternoon yet again. First starting along the I-40 corridor and areas north before tracking south towards the Queen City. I expect most of these showers to taper off before impacting Uptown.

Overnight lows will bottom out in the 70s, making for another warm start to the day. Our summer-like pattern will continue with another afternoon in the 90s with a more pronounced storm chance heading into the afternoon.

We have a slight risk for severe weather on Thursday from Uptown and I-85 to areas north and east of Charlotte. These storms will have the potential to pack a punch in the form of damaging winds and large hail.

Storms will roll through early and mid-afternoon with highs aimed for the low 90s. We’ll peak near 90 degrees on Friday, with hotter conditions set for the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday will hit the low to mid-90s with partly to mostly cloudy skies and dry conditions. The 90s continue early next week with afternoon storm chances returning by Tuesday.
