THE Kansas City Chiefs have been sued by a former employee for alleged racial discrimination.
The Chiefs are claimed to have “unlawfully discriminated and retaliated against Plaintiff based on his race.”
The suit was filed by Ramzee Robinson, who worked as director of player engagement for nine years.
Robinson is also a former NFL player and claims the “Chiefs paid African-American business employees less than their white counterparts.”
The lawsuit was filed in the Western District of Missouri.
It states that Robinson started on a salary of $35,000 a year in 2016 and had a final salary of $125,000.
The suit also claims the average salary for the position is $171,932.
It also says that he wanted a salary review with team president Mark Donovan which was rejected.
According to the lawsuit, Robinson’s supervisor called him into her office on February 15, 2025.
Robinson was allegedly told he had engaged in “conduct detrimental to the league” by executive vice president of administration Kirsten Krug.
Ex-Chiefs employee Robinson was allegedly accused of attacking a white female co-worker and told there was video evidence.
When Robinson asked to see the video, he claims his request was rejected.
The lawsuit claims that Robinson was then fired by Krug.
“Race was a motivating factor in Defendant’s actions against Plaintiff,” the suit said.
Robinson wants compensation for “emotional distress, lost wages, including front and back pay and other benefits, reasonable attorneys’ fees and costs necessary for litigation.”
According to the lawsuit, Robinson “maintained a good working relationship with his direct reports and a great rapport with the players.”
He played three years in the NFL as a corner back from 2007 with two seasons at the Detroit Lions.
His final season was split between the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.
“We can’t comment because it’s an active legal matter,” Chiefs vice president of football communications Brad Gee said in a statement to NBC’s Pro Football Talk.
“But to be clear, the Chiefs do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.
“We look forward to the facts of this case coming to light.”
Kansas City begins the season with a game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil on September 5.
