Bhubaneswar: Amid massive public outrage over the alleged gang-rape of a 20-year-old student at Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district, the Odisha Police’s CID-Crime Branch has officially taken charge of the investigation.
Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania has ordered the transfer of the case (Gopalpur PS Case No. 186/16.06.2025) to the Crime Against Women and Children (CAW&CW) Wing of the CID-Crime Branch.
A special team from the Crime Branch has already reached Gopalpur and initiated a thorough probe into the incident.
The case has been designated as a ‘Red Flag’ case — a classification reserved for crimes of serious nature that demand urgent and high-level intervention.
The investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of Inspector General (IG) CAW&CW, Shyni S.
