(KRON) – The Oakland Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect in a homicide that occurred more than two years ago.
Shamieka Mabery was killed on February 24, 2023, in the 6900 block of International Boulevard.
According to OPD, Mabery argued with a named Brandon Bernard Bell on the night of her death. Bell, according to OPD, later shot Mabery while she was seated inside a vehicle and subsequently fled the scene on foot.
A warrant has since been issued for the suspect.
“She was a daughter, a friend, a neighbor, a pet parent, and a woman full of dreams,” said Mabery’s family in a statement. “Shamieka didn’t come from wealth or privilege. She was a Black woman from the projects of San Francisco. But her life was no less valuable than any other. We’re asking for the public not forget her. Say her name. Share her story. Help bring justice to a woman who can no longer fight for herself. Until justice is served, Shamieka cannot rest in peace.”
