The show that night, Jan. 12, 1987, at the famed venue was headlined by Clapton with the rest of the musicians playing in his band. Collins was sitting in on drums that night and at the previous show for drummer Steve Ferrone, who returned to the drum post for the next gig, on Jan. 16, 1987, according to notes on the Where’s Eric website.
Interestingly, Clapton allowed Knopfler to step into the spotlight and perform the Dire Straits classic “Money for Nothing” between his show-closing songs—Derek and the Dominos “Layla” and Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love.” However, Collins stayed behind the kit and did not perform any of his own hits, nor songs by Genesis, according to setlist.fm.

“Two of the most solid pocket drummers in pop/rock history...and I was lucky enough to have seen Eric's quartet tour w/Phil, Greg, and Nathan and it was incredible...I would have LOVED to have heard Phil and Steve drum live together...oozing w/groove,” another one wrote, although it appears the Collins and Ferrone didn’t play together, according to notes on the Where’s Eric website.
“???? damn the best of the musical panorama from the 70s to today ???️?️??,” another fan added.
