Florida couldn’t solve East Carolina at the Conway Regional this weekend and because of that the Gators are going home.
After giving up 11 runs to the Pirates in Friday’s regional opener, Florida allowed 11 more runs on Sunday in an 11-4 loss that eliminated the Gators 1 step short of the Super Regionals. Once again, UF couldn’t keep East Carolina’s bats from erupting, as the Pirates scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 7-1 lead and never looked back.
Florida crept within 8-4 with 3 runs in the 6th inning, scoring twice on an East Carolina error and once on a double play grounder. But as was the case all weekend against Gators pitching, the Pirates responded with a run of their own in the 6th and 2 more in the 8th to put it away.
A long day of baseball was just beginning for East Carolina. The Pirates stayed alive with the win over Florida and will turn around and face Coastal Carolina on Sunday night, with East Carolina once again facing elimination.
Florida only wishes it was playing another regional game on Sunday night. Instead, the Gators saw their season end, thanks to more poor pitching against the Pirates and not enough offense.

There was hope for UF after Saturday’s 17-2 victory over Fairfield gave the Gators another shot at East Carolina. But it was more of the same on Sunday for Florida, which lost to the Pirates, 11-6, in that forgettable regional opener on Friday.
