Terry Crews gushed to Us Weekly about his wife and revealed why their over three-decades long marriage is “better than ever.”
The former NFL player and wife Rebecca King-Crews, 59, met while attending Western Michigan University in the late 1980s. The college sweethearts wed on July 29, 1989, in King-Crews’s hometown of Gary, Indiana. Crews, 56, told Us Weekly exclusively the secret to 36 years is “really about finding out what it is you need.”
“What does she need and how can I provide that? And she did the same thing for me. She’s like, ‘What does he need? And how can I be the person that gives that to him?’” the America’s Got Talent host told Us while promoting his partnership with Starbucks Sunsera Blend. “And let me tell you, after 36 years, it’s better than ever. I can easily say we’re going to go on to eternity. That’s my plan.”
Crews also noted it’s important to have challenging discussions within the relationship.

“This is the thing that helped us get to the next level where people try to, they think that you never really have difficult conversations or arguments and the whole thing, but those things make you better. You have to have those things. You have to go through these things. The only way out is through.”
Each day Crews also asks himself, “how can I be the best husband, father, friend I can be.”
Cindy Ord/Getty Images“For me, it’s more important that, as a husband, if I can do that right first, it’s like now it’s in my house. Then you go in to father with the kids and then you kind of extend it out to the rest of the world,” he explained.
Crews and King-Crews have five adult children. They share Naomi, 36, Azriél, 35, Tera, 26, Wynfrey “Winnie”, 21, and Isaiah, 20.

Crews spoke to Us about how this phase of marriage is also different because their children are older and they are in less of a parent role and more “advisor,” “friend” or occasionally “financier.”
“Now my wife and I, we can just pick up, we can go wherever we want. We can do what we want. And I’d say this, my wife has really attacked this in so many ways,” Crews gushed. “She wrote books; she has a clothing line; she started a church. I mean, she’s done so many things simply because now she knew she had to replace the kids with her dreams and she never neglected herself. And I think that’s wonderful.”
