‘Car graveyard’ with moss-covered classic models from Ford, Volkswagen, & more is found in the middle of the woods

A MOSS-covered car graveyard full to the brim with rusty vehicles from the likes of Ford and Renault has been discovered.

An explorer was stunned after he came across the collection dotted around a long-abandoned property in the middle of the woods.

YouTube channel Exploring With Boss found the cars which had long been overrun by the elements, and some were damaged almost beyond recognition.

According to Auto Evolution, they were likely originally parked in a huge backyard, but nature has since reclaimed the area.

It’s unclear why the cars were abandoned or what happened to their owner.

Among the vehicles that can be identified is a rare Morris Minor van, which appears to be an old British Telecom vehicle, based on its yellow finish, while a very rusted Mini Traveller with a collapsed roof is parked nearby.

A Volkswagen Beetle, possibly from the late-1960s or early-1970s, can be found among the overgrowth too, although such is the extent of its damage that it likely can’t even be used for parts.

A first-gen Mini Cooper is parked nearby, close to a rusty Clubman model, while a host of classic Renaults make up a large portion of the vehicles on the former property.

That includes one of the French brand’s longest-running nameplates, the 12, which remained in production for over five decades.

Indeed, in some parts of the world, it was produced until 2000, while the Romanian version, produced by Dacia, ran until 2006.

A classic Renault 5 and a trio of Renault 4s – both nameplates that have recently been revived – are also among the scattered wrecks.

Other British hatchbacks commonly seen some 20 years ago join them, including the Ford Fiesta and a Vauxhall Viva.

This comes as a rare Chevrolet that was taken from a barn after gathering dust for decades is now in the process of being restored.

The classic Chevelle SS 396 was rediscovered back in 1994 when it was parked in a garage, where it remained untouched for over 30 years.

The car’s long-time owners, a husband and wife from Sangerville, Maine, had kept the car since the husband purchased it as a teenager in 1976 for just $500.

But recently, the couple decided to pass the car on to their nephew, who plans to restore it to its former glory.

Before that, the owners opted to invite the YouTube channel to take a look at it – showcasing its worn but surprisingly well-preserved state.

Despite being parked up for many years and living on the coast, notorious for salty air that can make cars rust faster, the Chevelle had survived remarkably well, largely thanks to the shelter from the garage.

Gearheads interested in restoring cars should follow five key steps before they undertake the massive project.

It’s important to plan and set a budget, strip the vehicle of any rusty or useless parts, sand back the bodywork, restore the engine, and then rebuild all of the parts.

Other drivers have called their own street a car graveyard after clunkers were left abandoned, leaving residents with nowhere to park.

And a trolley graveyard was uncovered underneath a neighborhood.

Five steps for restoring a car

Restoring a car can be a massive undertaking. Here's a simpler way to think about the process as a whole:

Plan This includes setting a budget, preparing a work area, researching parts, and establishing a timeline to get the work done. Strip the vehicle This involves disassembling the vehicle and assessing the condition of the parts being removed. Bodywork This means stripping the paint and repairing any rust and dents, followed by repainting. Engine restoration This involves restoring a car’s power – including engine repairs. Rebuild After reassembling and detailing the car, all that’s left is to take it for a test drive.
