His agent and friend Jeff Sperbeck, 62, died after falling off the cart which Elway was reportedly driving.

Sperbeck sustained some serious injuries in his fall.

He was pronounced dead on April 30 after a head trauma.

Police initially were hesitant to investigate the fatal crash.

But they later began looking into the incident which cost Sperbeck his life.

Cops have now provided an update on their search to TMZ.

They have spoken to all witnesses in the area where the crash occurred.

Riverside County sheriff Chad Bianco said, “There is no evidence or statement to indicate this is nothing more than a tragic accident.

“We determined the case would remain open until we contacted all residents who might have video of the path traveled.”

Elway and Sperbeck have been inseparable since the NFL quarterback signed his future best friend as his manager in the early 1990s.

At the time, Elway was still leading the Denver Broncos, who had secured him as a first-round first pick in 1983.

With Sperbeck by his side, Elway would go on to win two Super Bowl at the end of his career and even be declared Super Bowl MVP in 1999.

After securing the lifetime achievements, Elway retired from the league, but he didn’t cut ties with Sperbeck.

Instead, the two became business partners, launching a winery called 7Cellars, which is a nod to Elway’s jersey number.

Elway and Sperbeck had attended Stagecoach, California’s top country music festival, together.

Headlining this year were superstar singers Zach Bryan, Jelly Roll, and Luke Combs.

The festival also saw pop singer Lana Del Rey join the ranks as she prepares to release a country record.

Elway lives in Colorado, but his business 7Cellars is based in California.

According to the business’s website, Sperbeck represented over 100 NFL players throughout his 30-year career as an agent.

The businessman was involved “in a multitude of Elway’s and other athletes’ businesses, as an advisor, partner and, or investor,” the website reads.

Elway attributed Sperbeck and his past restaurant businesses to his wine company’s thriving.
